Keeping your cat’s teeth clean

Take an active role in keeping your cat's teeth clean and healthy.

To check your furry friend’s teeth, lift her lips away from her gums and press a finger firmly on a spot over an upper tooth. When you take your finger away, the white color of the finger imprint on the gum should return to pink. Open your cat's mouth to inspect all her teeth. Look for tartar accumulation, which is yellow to dark brown in color and negatively impacts oral health.

Brush your cat's teeth on a regular basis with a specially designed pet toothbrush and toothpaste. It may take some patience to get your cat used to a brushing, but it's worth it.

You can also give your cat snacks designed to help manage plaque and tartar buildup. And regular cleanings by your vet are essential to remove tartar and ensure your cat's long-term dental health.
