Cat diet: what human food can cats eat

July 10, 2018
Cats are unique and have different nutritional requirements than humans. As ‘Obligate Carnivores’, meat is essential for their survival. Therefore, your cat’s daily diet must contain Taurine and other essential nutrients that are only found in meat.  The WHISKAS® range of cat food includes dry food, and wet food, which comes in cans and trays. They are all complete and balanced so you can feed your cat the food that is tailored to their life-stage and be confident that they are getting all the nutrients they need in just the right amounts.

Can cats drink milk?

  • After kittens are weaned, they lose their ability to digest milk – contrary to popular belief, cats should not be given cow's milk to drink!  However, at WHISKAS®, we know that owners like to treat their cats to something special so we’ve created a safe version of milk that cats love.

Can cats eat cheese?

We know that some owners like to treat their cats with cheese, but this is not advisable as cats are in fact lactose-intolerant. Their digestive system cannot process dairy foods, and the result can be digestive upset and diarrhea.
Some varieties of Temptations® Cat Treats include cheese as a flavour variety, with lactose removed so they are safe for cats to eat.

Some human foods that are perfectly safe for us to eat can be highly toxic and dangerous for cats, so be sure never to let your cat eat any of the following:
  • Chocolate
  • Grapes
  • Raisins
  • Caffeine
  • Onions
  • Garlic
  • Xylitol
If your cat does consume any of these things, please seek veterinary attention immediately.
