What is the proper way to store WHISKAS® Cat Food?
We recommend storing dry, or unopened wet WHISKAS® Cat Food products in a cool dry place, not subject to extreme hot or cold temperatures. Our dry products should not be stored in areas of humidity (washer, dryer, refrigerator, etc.) or near odorous materials (detergent, fertilizer, etc.). If possible, store our dry products in a plastic container (keep the product in the bag with top folded closed for best storage).
Does WHISKAS® Wet Cat Food need to be refrigerated after opening?
Yes. Any unused portion needs to be refrigerated in a sealed container. We recommend using the food within four days of opening. You may allow the food to sit at room temperature for up to thirty minutes or microwave the food for a few seconds (in a microwave-safe dish) prior to feeding, as some cats do not care for cold food.
Does WHISKAS® CATMILK need to be refrigerated after opening?
Yes, this product should be refrigerated after opening. It will keep in the refrigerator for just under a week. We suggest bringing it to room temperature prior to serving for your cat's maximum enjoyment.
Where are WHISKAS® products made?
All of our WHISKAS® products are made in North America
How can I tell if my WHISKAS® products are getting past shelf life?
Shelf life studies are conducted on our products to determine optimum quality over time. If you have a concern about the freshness of your product, please note the lot number of the product, and contact Consumer Affairs at: 1-800-667-2424
Can I feed my kitten WHISKAS® Dry Adult Food?
No. Our WHISKAS® Adult Dry Cat Food has been formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Cat Food Nutrient Profiles for Adult Cat Maintenance Only. We have a kitten formula in our dry assortment (WHISKAS® Kitten with Chicken) that delivers great taste and is specially formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Cat Food Nutrient Profiles for All Life Stages.
Can WHISKAS® CATMILK be used as a replacement for mother’s milk?
No. WHISKAS® CATMILK is intended for intermittent or supplemental feeding only as it does not meet the AAFCO Cat Food Nutrient Profiles for All Life Stages or adult cat maintenance. We recommend feeding your weaned kitten a mixture of WHISKAS® Kitten (with Chicken) Dry Food and WHISKAS® Wet Food.
How much wet and/or dry food should I feed my cat?
All of our packs have feeding guidelines to help you work out how much food to feed your cat. We know that every cat is different so yours might need more or less food, according to their own weight, age and how much exercise they do. If you’re unsure you can get in touch with our Consumer Care team.
How many calories are in WHISKAS® Cat Food?
It depends on the size and variety of the product. Please refer to the calorie statement which appears under the guaranteed analysis on product packages, or the products section of Whiskas.ca to find out the calorie content for your specific product.
Should I reduce my cat's main meal if I give them treats?
You should aim to give no more than 10% of your cat's daily calories in treats. This is to ensure they're getting all the nutrients they need from their main meals. If you treat, we recommend you reduce the mainmeal slightly to compensate, so that your cat isn't getting too many calories per day.
My dog likes your WHISKAS® Cat Food — is it ok for him to eat it, too?
No. Dogs and cats have different nutritional requirements and should be fed food that is formulated for them. However, if your dog accidently eats WHISKAS® Cat Food, your dog should be fine if he is not on any special/restricted diet.
How do I transition from my previous food to WHISKAS®?
It's always best to introduce a new diet gradually by mixing small amounts of the new food with their usual food for a few days. Gradually introduce the new WHISKAS® food over a seven day period to avoid digestive upsets. Reduce the current food and increase WHISKAS® food until you are feeding it exclusively.
Day 1-2 75% Current 25% New
Day 3-4 50% Current 50% New
Day 5-6 25% Current 75% New
Day 7+ 100% NewMy cat doesn’t chew your kibble, she just swallows it. Is that okay?
Cats’ teeth are different from humans. They are designed for biting and tearing, so they are not efficient at chewing food. Depending on the size of dry kibble they are eating, they may bite only once or twice before swallowing. If your cat is new to the diet, we recommend transitional feeding. As long as your cat does not vomit or exhibit other signs of digestive upset, then this should not be a concern.
My cat will only eat the pockets?
If your cat is new to this food, then we recommend practicing transitional feeding. WHISKAS® Dry Food for cats (both kibbles and pockets) are complete and balanced, so your cat is getting what she needs. In order to encourage her to eat all of the food, we recommend transitional feeding. You can also portion food carefully, introducing one serving at a time, or limit the amount of food in the bowl to what the feeding guide recommends for a day and leave it out for a bit longer than usual to encourage your cat to finish.
Why does my cat sometimes refuse to eat their food?
This isn't anything to worry about. Cats are known for sniffing out the smallest change in look, smell and taste - even the environment can affect them. You might want to tempt them a few times so that they get used to it.
